“Unique Financial Empowerment Program Launched for Market Vendors and Farmers”

Market vendors and farmers supplying the Suva, Nausori, and Ba Municipal Markets will take part in the ANZ Saver Plus matched savings and financial education pilot program.

ANZ Fiji Country Head, Rabih Yazbek, stated that the pilot program will see 70 participants in Fiji set savings goals, save over a 10-month period, and attend MoneyMinded or MoneyMinded Business Basics financial education workshops. At the end of the program, ANZ will match their savings up to $500 to help alleviate living costs.

The participants, associated with the UN Women Markets for Change project, will be market vendors and farmers supplying the Suva, Nausori, and Ba markets.

Mr. Yazbek noted that the pilot scheme, in partnership with UNDP, aims to enhance economic empowerment for women in the Pacific region.

“Saver Plus is an effective way to support the Reserve Bank of Fiji’s goals of boosting financial literacy and providing greater financial security for all Fijians,” he said.

“ANZ is proud of the impact Saver Plus has had over the past 20 years, offering a lifelong resource for improved financial well-being and confidence to many.”

ANZ created the Saver Plus matched savings program over 20 years ago in Australia with the Brotherhood of St. Laurence. It has since helped more than 58,000 Australians enhance their financial well-being, with participants collectively saving over $29 million. ANZ has contributed more than $24 million in matched savings.
