The Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) successfully reached a collective agreement with Amex Resources Ltd on Monday in Lautoka. In a statement, CETWUF national secretary John Paul expressed gratitude for Amex’s cooperation, noting that the company had recently distributed Christmas bonuses to its workers, which number just over 100, with 80 of them being union members.
The collective agreement, which has been a significant achievement for CETWUF in 2024, outlines improvements in working conditions for employees. Additionally, both parties have agreed to reconvene in March 2025 to discuss pay issues, highlighting ongoing dialogue regarding employees’ rights and compensation.
John Paul emphasized the importance of collaboration between employers and worker representative unions, encouraging other companies to engage in similar practices rather than complicating workers’ entitlements. He underscored the vital role of union membership in safeguarding workers’ rights.
This milestone not only showcases the effective representation of workers through unions but also sets a precedent for other employers to follow in fostering a fair workplace environment.
In summary, the successful signing of the collective agreement marks a hopeful development for workers’ rights and reflects a commitment between CETWUF and Amex Resources Ltd to improve labor conditions.
