Defending champions in the under-18-21 category, Axellerate Aflame Brothers, suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of St Peter Vuya Bua during their second pool match of the 49th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament. Played under overcast conditions at the HFC Bank Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva, the Aflame Brothers managed only five points while conceding 24 against the lesser-known team.

The Aflame Brothers opened the tournament on a positive note, securing a narrow 10-5 victory over Radisson Naduruniu. However, their surprise loss to St Peter Vuya Bua highlighted the unpredictable nature of the tournament, where underdog teams can rise to the occasion against more favored opponents.

In another key matchup, Village Boys claimed victory over their longtime rivals, Axellerate Dominion Brothers, winning the match 17-10. The competition otherwise saw several closely contested games, including Cautata Eagles’ 17-5 win against Saint Michael Navesibasaga, and a draw between Aqua Pro Savuqali and Bureta Young Boys at 7-7.

As the tournament progresses, the third round of pool matches has already produced more exciting results, indicating that fans can expect even more thrilling action. The continuous development of the tournament reinforces its importance in promoting local talent and bringing communities together, fostering the rich rugby culture in Fiji.

This year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s not only showcases emerging rugby talents but also highlights the spirit of sportsmanship and the potential for upsets in this exhilarating competition. Fans are encouraged to keep an eye on the matches as surprises and exciting performances are anticipated in the coming days.
