Unknown team Vacalea Young Boys from Nakasaleka in Kadavu will make a remarkable appearance in the quarterfinals of the 38th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament, marking a significant milestone as the only outsider competing alongside established local rugby teams.

Vacalea secured their position in the quarterfinals after defeating the Nasesevia Blues with a score of 5-nil in the second elimination round. They are set to face fellow Kadavu team, the Lavidi Brothers, in the third Cup quarterfinal.

The other teams advancing to the quarterfinals include recognized local clubs, such as Devo Babas, who will battle against Tabadamu, TEMC Warriors up against Wardens Gold, and the Westfield Tigers taking on Police Blue.

Fans can catch all the excitement of the Nawaka 7s live on FBC 2, where the dynamic atmosphere and competitive spirit of Fijian rugby are on full display.

In previous elimination rounds, notable matches included Devo Babas winning convincingly over St Gabriel Nakavika with 19-10 and the Lavidi Brothers narrowly defeating Nakavu. The tournament not only showcases competitive play but also enhances community engagement, reflecting the deep-rooted rugby culture in Fiji.

As this year’s Nawaka 7s continues, there is palpable excitement among fans and participants, with a strong sense of unity and support for the teams—especially for an underdog like Vacalea. Their journey serves as an inspiration, showcasing the potential of grassroots rugby and the essence of sportsmanship in the cultural fabric of Fiji.
