“Undercover Traffickers: Drug Smugglers Don Pastor Disguise in Fiji”

A new trend in drug trafficking has emerged in Fiji, where traffickers are reportedly disguising themselves as pastors and elderly women to evade border officers. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Immigration and Home Affairs, noted that this development poses a significant challenge for law enforcement and border control officials.

According to Mr. Tikoduadua, these traffickers often pass through the country’s international airports while concealing drugs. He stated, “Some of them impersonate as a italatala (pastor) or as an old woman to take advantage of the situation.” He emphasized that traffickers frequently change their appearance, making it crucial for authorities to enhance their vigilance in order to apprehend them.

Mr. Tikoduadua praised the efforts of Fijian law enforcement in protecting the nation’s borders from drug trafficking activities. He urged the public to assist in the fight against drugs, declaring that “this national action plan against drugs is everyone’s responsibility.” He stressed that the responsibility does not solely fall on the police or business sectors, as many have the resources to contribute effectively to this initiative.
