A police officer stationed in Vunika, Labasa is currently under investigation following an incident captured on CCTV where he is alleged to have purchased drugs at the Labasa Market. This event reportedly took place last Thursday, when an ex-police officer witnessed the uniformed officer leaving the market with the illicit substances.
Paul Jaduram, the special administrator for the Labasa Town Council, confirmed that the market master viewed the CCTV footage after receiving the complaint and subsequently informed the Labasa Police Station, given that the individual involved was a police officer.
Mr. Jaduram noted that community members are often aware of certain police officers engaging in drug-related activities and encouraged the public to share information with someone they trust. He emphasized the importance of vigilance, particularly among parents, in relation to children potentially involved in drug transactions.
“The municipal market serves as a busy hub close to transportation points and shops, making it crucial for us to collaborate in combating drug-related issues,” he stated.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kemueli Baledrokadroka confirmed that an investigation is actively underway.
This situation highlights a community in action, coming together to address concerns about drug-related activities. It serves as a reminder of the importance of public vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to create a safer environment for everyone.
