Undercover Operation Uncovers Suspicious Lab Equipment

A coordinated operation between the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has led to the confiscation of equipment that could be used in a potential clandestine lab.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew stated that task forces from the Western and Eastern Divisions, together with the K9 capabilities of the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, intercepted the consignment at a warehouse in Nadi on Friday, July 12.

Although analysis of substances found in several containers returned negative for illicit drugs, the substances—known medications—are also recognized as precursors, prompting an investigation into possible manufacturing activities.

The Acting Commissioner emphasized the manufacturing component is under scrutiny since many cartons contained equipment and apparatus typically used in the production of illicit drugs.

The Acting head of the Fiji Police Force highlighted the significance of this seizure, underlining their commitment to combating illicit drugs across all areas, including unlawful possession, cultivation, importation, and manufacturing.

Investigations are ongoing, with six individuals currently being questioned. The investigation is in its early stages, and more people are expected to be brought in for questioning soon.
