The Yadako sub-junior volleyball team kicked off their Tui Suva Volleyball competition with an impressive victory, defeating the favorites Toba 1-0 in their initial pool game. Coach Nasoni Ravosai expressed his pride in the team’s spirited performance, highlighting their determination throughout the match.

Representing the Suvavou community, located near the RB Patel shopping complex, the sub-junior team consists of players aged under 14. Ravosai, who is originally from Wainimala, has been struck by the community’s passion for volleyball, particularly as the tournament celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. He remarked on how the sport has played a crucial role in promoting unity and providing positive engagement for the youth in the area.

“The Suvavou community truly values volleyball, and it’s inspiring to see it bring the younger generation together. It keeps them away from mischief and is a powerful counter to the drug epidemic affecting our nation,” Ravosai noted. He also commended the community’s efforts to involve younger players in competitions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this tradition. According to him, these activities not only strengthen the community but also help nurture the future leaders of the nation.

This positive engagement in sports not only fosters teamwork and discipline among the youth but also demonstrates the significant role that community-driven initiatives can play in transforming lives and offering brighter prospects for the younger generation. It’s a testament to how sports can serve as a platform for growth and empowerment, giving hope to communities grappling with challenges.
