Individuals are attempting to undermine the Cogea relocation project, according to Vani Catanasiga, executive director of the Fiji Council of Social Services.
Without naming names, Ms. Catanasiga mentioned that these individuals are from sub-national offices in the North.
“We wrote a letter of complaint to their respective office, but no action was taken against them,” she stated.
When questioned about whether the project’s donor was considering withdrawing support, she noted that such misinformation could negatively impact the project.
“This is news to me,” Ms. Catanasiga remarked.
“There was some resentment about the project when we took it over.”
Ms. Catanasiga also said they would consult with villagers to keep them informed about the relocation.
“I know the issues you are raising are not from villagers but from sub-national offices.”
She further added that the relocation project was progressing well.
