Breast cancer represents more than mere statistics, as each figure embodies personal stories that deeply affect families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.
Ms. Toga spoke at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education on Friday during the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebrations. She emphasized that no one should face the battle against breast cancer alone and urged nursing students and staff to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.
“Breast cancer impacts countless individuals; our mothers, sisters, friends, and even ourselves. No one should tackle cancer by themselves,” Ms. Toga highlighted.
She stressed to the students that the key to preventing breast cancer lies in early detection and appropriate treatment, making it essential for them to raise awareness on this critical issue.
October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), celebrated globally to inform and educate about breast cancer. This month focuses on the significance of early detection, timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and the necessity to support those living with cancer.
