A 49-year-old man has been remanded by the Nausori Magistrates Court after being charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece. The incident reportedly took place on September 2 at the accused’s home, where he is said to have forced the victim into a situation leading to the alleged offenses. The victim was at the home to return an item belonging to the man’s daughter when the incident occurred. The victim’s mother subsequently reported the matter to the Vunidawa Police Station. The man is facing two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. He remains in custody, with the case adjourned to September 19 at the Suva High Court for mention.
