A 49-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece. The Nausori Magistrates Court addressed the charges on Thursday, following an incident that reportedly took place at the accused’s home on September 2.
The victim had visited the defendant to return an item belonging to his daughter, where the alleged assault occurred. The incident was subsequently reported to the Vunidawa Police Station by the victim’s mother.
The accused faces multiple charges, including two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The case has been scheduled for mention at the Suva High Court on September 19.
