A 49-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece. The charges were presented at the Nausori Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The incidents are said to have taken place on September 2 at the man’s residence, where the victim had gone to return an item belonging to his daughter. It is alleged that he forcibly took her and committed the offenses.
Following the incident, the victim’s mother reported the matter to the Vunidawa Police Station. The man faces two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.
The case has been scheduled for mention at the Suva High Court on September 19.
