A 49-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece. The Nausori Magistrates Court heard that the incident took place on September 2 at the accused’s residence. The victim, who had gone to return an item belonging to the man’s daughter, reportedly was taken by force, leading to the alleged offenses. The victim’s mother subsequently reported the matter to the Vunidawa Police Station. The man faces two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The case has been scheduled for mention at the Suva High Court on September 19.
