Nasinu Secondary School maintained their unbeaten streak in the Vodafone U18 Deans competition by narrowly defeating Tailevu North College 17-13 in a quarterfinal match held at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva this afternoon.
Tailevu North took an early lead, shocking the southern zone champions with two penalties from Ratu Kolinio in the 5th and 12th minutes, putting them ahead 6-0.
However, Nasinu quickly responded with determination. In the 26th minute, Josevata Vaibete scored a try, followed by a successful conversion that allowed Nasinu to take a 7-6 lead.
The match was fiercely contested, with Tailevu North facing disciplinary issues, including receiving a yellow card. Despite being a player down, they managed to score a try, but it was initially disallowed by the referee.
Seizing the momentum, Nasinu scored another try to extend their advantage. Tailevu North eventually earned a try that was confirmed after some discussion among the referees, but they struggled with discipline again, receiving a second yellow card that left them short-handed.
Taking full advantage of the situation, Nasinu secured the victory with a late penalty, concluding the match at 17-13.
