Saimoni Uluinakauvadra, a backrower, is poised to demonstrate his skills and secure his position in the Flying Fijians starting lineup. The 26-year-old has been named at openside flanker for the upcoming Test match against Spain in Valladolid. Head coach Mick Byrne expressed confidence in Uluinakauvadra’s abilities, noting his physicality and fitness for the demands of the position. Byrne emphasized that Uluinakauvadra is ready to make his debut and is a product of the team’s development system over the years.

Uluinakauvadra has gained experience playing with the Tanihwa Northland rugby team in the New Zealand National Provincial Championship (NPC) for the past two years. His rugby journey includes representing the Fiji Under-20 team that triumphed in the World Rugby U20 Trophy final in 2018, and later participating in the 2019 World Rugby Pacific Challenge with the Fijian Warriors. His impressive performances led to his selection in the Flying Fijians squad, where he contributed to their victory over the Barbarians.

Looking ahead to the match against Spain, Byrne anticipates a tough encounter, highlighting Spain’s aggressive and energetic style of play. The coach mentioned their focus on strengthening defense and minimizing errors, particularly benefiting from lessons learned in previous matches. Unfortunately, injuries have sidelined some players, including lock Isoa Nasilasila and Vuate Karawalevu, but Byrne remains optimistic due to the depth in the squad, a result of their hard work.

As the match approaches, the team is set to kick-off at 2 AM, and the Flying Fijians are ready to showcase their talent and determination on the field.

The lineup for Fiji features a strong mix of experienced players and emerging talent, including the forward pack of Eroni Mawi, Sam Matavesi, Luke Tagi, Mesake Vocevoce, Leone Rotuisolia, Vilive Miramira, Saimoni Uluinakauvadra, and Albert Tuisue, along with an exciting group of backs.

This match serves not only as a chance for Uluinakauvadra to make his mark but also for the Flying Fijians to solidify their strategies and demonstrate their skill on the international stage. It’s a promising moment for the team as they aim to build momentum and confidence as they navigate their competitive journey ahead.
