The Rotaract Club of Suva recently donated an ultrasound system to the anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva, in a move celebrated for its positive impact on healthcare delivery. This significant contribution was facilitated by Dr. John Salmon, a Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer at the Fiji National University, and supported locally by Clifford Smith from Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.

Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the clinical lead for the ICU at CWM Hospital, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the new equipment, emphasizing its importance not only for patients in the ICU but across several other departments in the hospital’s east wing. This donation is part of the Rotaract Club of Suva’s ongoing commitment to improve healthcare facilities and address capacity challenges, ensuring better services for patients.

Margret Savou, the president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, highlighted that this donation is not an isolated event; rather, it is part of a broader effort that includes previous contributions such as a respiratory monitor and various teaching displays and monitoring devices earlier this year. Additionally, last year, the club also assisted in providing another ultrasound system to the obstetrics and gynaecology department.

Established on October 23, 1970, by the Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotaract Club of Suva holds the distinction of being the oldest Rotaract Club in the South Pacific. It actively engages individuals aged 18 and older to collaborate and develop skills while serving their community, fostering leadership and professional growth.

This initiative by the Rotaract Club signifies a hopeful advancement in the healthcare sector in Fiji, showcasing the power of community support and collaboration. Each donation not only enhances medical capabilities but also reinforces the importance of collective action in achieving impactful change.

Overall, this ongoing support from the Rotaract Club of Suva symbolizes a brighter future for healthcare in the region, encouraging further community engagement and contributions to improve patient care.
