Ukrainian boxing icon Vyacheslav Uzelkov has passed away at the age of 45. Known for his impressive light heavyweight career, Uzelkov achieved a remarkable record of 30 wins out of 34 fights, including 19 victories by knockout. He held multiple titles, including the WBA Inter-Continental, IBO International, and WBO Inter-Continental light heavyweight championships.
Uzelkov’s death occurred while he was on the path to recovery following heart surgery. The Ukrainian Boxing Federation expressed their deep sorrow through an Instagram post, stating, “It is with deep sadness that we announce that Ukrainian boxing has suffered a heavy loss – the death of Vyacheslav Uzelkov.” They honored his legacy, proclaiming, “His name will forever be etched in the history of the sport, and his example of strength, resilience, and dedication to his craft will inspire generations to come.”
Uzelkov, who earned the nickname “Steel Power,” began his boxing career in 2004 with a victorious debut against Suleyman Dzherilov. His contributions to the sport have left an undeniable mark, and while his loss is profoundly felt, his spirit and achievements will continue to motivate future athletes.
