The United States exercised its veto power at the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday against a resolution calling for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, along with unrestricted humanitarian access. The resolution, which had garnered support from 14 of the 15 council members, was dismissed by Acting U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Dorothy Shea. She articulated that the U.S. would not endorse any measure that lacks a condemnation of Hamas or fails to call for its disarmament.
