Two Women Found Dead in Fiji as Police Seek Public Help During 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

Two women have tragically lost their lives, prompting police to call for assistance from the public as investigations unfold. These incidents come during the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, highlighting a time dedicated to raising awareness about such issues.

Authorities reported that one of the women, found in Veisari, Lami, was allegedly murdered by her husband. Following the incident, he reportedly transported her body in their vehicle to Totogo Police Station in Suva, where he subsequently reported the matter.

In a separate case, the body of an iTaukei woman was discovered in Lautoka yesterday. Forensic teams have been dispatched to the scene as part of the investigation. The police are actively seeking the public’s help to identify the deceased woman, who is believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30.

The woman was found lying motionless near a tree in Fenner Park along Thomson Crescent and lacked any form of identification. She was described as wearing black shorts adorned with a gorilla print, black tights, a black bra, and a blue cloth wrapped around her neck. Additionally, she had a ring on her left finger and red-and-white friendship beads on her left wrist.

Authorities are urging anyone with possible information to contact the Lautoka Police Station at 6660222. This call for community collaboration underscores the importance of collective efforts in addressing violence and ensuring justice for those affected. The hope is that these investigations will lead to resolution and support for the victims’ families while emphasizing the critical conversation surrounding gender-based violence in society.
