Sailosi Lakovi and Sekove Tawake, who are facing charges related to an attempted robbery in the Tacirua New Subdivision on December 20 of last year, were remanded again by the Nasinu Magistrates Court today. Each defendant is charged with attempted robbery, resisting arrest, and refusing to provide fingerprints.
During the court session, Sailosi Lakovi expressed worries about rumors concerning an oil tank at Walu Bay, which he claimed could explode and necessitate the evacuation of the remand center. The Magistrate addressed Lakovi’s concerns by clarifying that the Fiji Corrections Service would officially inform the court if such a situation developed, emphasizing that the court’s jurisdiction is limited to the matters concerning the defendants.
The prosecution was given a week to submit its bail response, and both Lakovi and Tawake were instructed to arrange for two sureties each. The case is set to be revisited on January 22 for a bail hearing.
This ongoing legal matter highlights the challenges faced by the local judicial system in handling cases while also addressing safety concerns. As the situation develops, the defendants and their representatives remain focused on navigating the legal process and ensuring that their rights are upheld.
