Two Groups of Fiji Educators Graduate at Corpus Christi College Suva

Two groups of aspiring educators celebrated their graduation from Corpus Christi Teachers College in Suva, marking a significant achievement not only for the institution but also for the communities they are set to serve.

The event honored the first cohort of 18 women who successfully completed their Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Father Steven Filipo, principal of Corpus Christi, praised the graduates for their unwavering commitment, which remained steadfast despite various challenges they faced in their educational journeys. He noted, “These women are hardworking students who truly want to seek knowledge,” adding that many of them had previously missed educational opportunities due to marriages and familial responsibilities.

The second cohort included 34 students who earned a three-year diploma in Primary Teaching. Father Filipo emphasized Corpus Christi’s dedication to pastoral and spiritual formation, a longstanding tradition since the institution’s founding in 1958 under Bishop Foley. He expressed gratitude to the parents, local communities, and the Ministry of Education and the Higher Education Commission for their continuous support.

Among the graduates, Jasneeta Lakshmi from Nausori reflected on her educational journey, mentioning she returned to pursue her Diploma in Early Childhood Education 15 years after earning her initial certificate. Jasneeta had been working as a preschool teacher at Vuci Methodist Kindergarten, showcasing the commitment of educators in the community.

Another graduate, Brother Anitelea Fidow, expressed excitement about embarking on his teaching career at one of the five Marist Brothers schools in Fiji, indicating the valuable training he received at Corpus Christi.

This graduation highlights the important role that education plays in shaping the future, not only for the students but also for the wider community they will soon impact positively.
