In the first case, a 23-year-old woman from Rakiraki is accused of fraudulently acquiring $336 from a member of the public via the Mpaisa platform on January 31 of the previous year. Investigations revealed that the funds were mistakenly transferred to her account, which she then withdrew even though she wasn’t entitled to them. This incident was reported to the Valelevu Police Station, resulting in her arrest. She is currently in police custody and is set to appear in the Sigatoka Magistrate Court today.

In a related incident, a 44-year-old caregiver from Dreketi Feeder Road in Lautoka has also been charged with obtaining a financial advantage. She allegedly received $250 through the Mpaisa platform last January by creating a Facebook account impersonating her husband, a Disk Jockey. Without his knowledge or consent, she reportedly advertised and collected money for services that were never rendered. The incident was reported to the Nabua Police Station, leading to her arrest as well. She is scheduled to appear at the Lautoka Magistrate Court today.
