Tuvalu’s Under 16 and Under 18 rugby teams are eagerly anticipating their participation in next year’s Nadi Junior Rugby Club Festival following a successful experience at the 2025 edition held at Prince Charles Park. Coach Alama Elisaia emphasized the tournament’s significance as a crucial learning opportunity for the players, many of whom faced international competition for the first time, playing against formidable club teams on high-quality grounds.

Elisaia highlighted that the primary objective of their participation was exposure. He noted that the players were able to learn, observe, and absorb valuable insights from competing nations and clubs at the festival, making it a rewarding experience for the young athletes.

The coach conveyed that this initial experience is only the beginning for Tuvalu’s rugby journey, as their leadership is already planning a more significant return in 2026. Part of this vision includes the formation of a women’s team and the introduction of younger age groups, such as the under-10s, to foster rugby development in the nation.

The experience gained in Nadi has reinforced Tuvalu’s commitment to nurturing junior rugby, solidifying the festival’s role as a pivotal part of their future growth and aspirations in the sport. This proactive approach showcases Tuvalu’s dedication to expanding their rugby programs and enhancing the skills and experience of their young players in the international arena.
