Tui Nadi Steps Down: What’s Next for the People’s Alliance?

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance party. He made this announcement yesterday, revealing that he submitted his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his departure from the position. “First, I have accomplished what I set out to do in the formation of the party,” he stated, emphasizing the successful effort to defeat the FijiFirst party as a significant achievement during his leadership.

He expressed his desire to prioritize his health and personal life, feeling the need to relieve himself from the dual pressures of being both the party president and a chief. “I want to focus on my role as the Tui Nadi,” he explained, adding that he believes it is the right moment to allow someone else to take over. Ratu Vuniyani also addressed rumors regarding disagreements within the party, describing them as misinformation.

He extended his gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters. Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
