Tui Nadi Steps Down: A Shift in Leadership for the People’s Alliance

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his role as the president of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP). He announced his resignation during the PAP’s executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his decision. He stated, “First, I have achieved what I had committed to in the formation of the party,” highlighting the successful effort to defeat the FijiFirst party as a significant accomplishment of his leadership.

He also expressed his desire to prioritize his health and well-being, mentioning, “I don’t want to take both the pressure of these two leaderships of being president and chief-ly role of Nadi.” He intends to focus solely on his responsibilities as Tui Nadi and believes it is the right moment to allow someone else to carry on as president. Ratu Vuniyani clarified that rumors regarding disagreements over procedures were untrue.

In conclusion, he expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, the vice president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
