Tui Nadi Steps Down: A New Era for the People’s Alliance Party?

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has announced his resignation as the president of the People’s Alliance Party. He confirmed this decision during an executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his resignation. He stated, “First, I have achieved what I had committed to in the formation of the party,” highlighting the successful effort to challenge and ultimately defeat the FijiFirst party as a significant achievement during his leadership.

He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health and well-being, stating that he did not wish to manage the pressures of both the presidency and his chief role in Nadi. “I want to focus on one role, which is that of the Tui Nadi. This is the right time to pass this baton to someone else to continue,” he explained. Ratu Vuniyani dismissed rumors suggesting disagreements regarding party procedures, describing them as misinformation.

He expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
