Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his role as president of the People’s Alliance Party. He confirmed his resignation, stating that he presented it during last week’s executive council meeting. The 70-year-old cited two primary reasons for his departure.
Ratu Vuniyani noted that he had fulfilled his commitment in establishing the party, primarily in its aim to defeat the FijiFirst party, which he considers a significant accomplishment during his leadership. He expressed a desire to prioritize his health and personal life, noting the pressures of handling both the presidency and his chief role in Nadi. He emphasized the importance of focusing on his responsibilities as Tui Nadi and indicated that it was the appropriate time to hand over the leadership to someone new, addressing rumors that suggested he had disagreements with party procedures, which he described as misinformation.
He extended his gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters. Following his resignation, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, will serve as the acting president.
