Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has announced his resignation as the president of the People’s Alliance Party. He confirmed that he submitted his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting held last week.

The 70-year-old cited two main reasons for his departure. “First, I have accomplished what I set out to do in forming the party,” he stated. He highlighted the successful effort to defeat the FijiFirst party as a significant achievement in his leadership role.

Additionally, Ratu Vuniyani expressed the need to prioritize his health and personal life, stating, “I don’t want to bear the pressure of both leadership roles as president and Tui Nadi. I have chosen to focus on my responsibilities as Tui Nadi.” He believes it is the appropriate time to hand over leadership to someone else.

He also addressed rumors suggesting that his resignation was due to disagreements over certain procedures, labeling these claims as misinformation. Ratu Vuniyani expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Ratu Josefa Dimuri, the vice president, will serve as the acting president following his resignation.
