Tui Nadi Resigns: What’s Next for the People’s Alliance?

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, indicating that he had formally submitted his decision during last week’s executive council meeting of the PAP.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his departure. “Firstly, I have accomplished what I set out to do in the establishment of the party,” he stated. “My goal was to defeat the FijiFirst party, and we succeeded in that endeavor. This has been a significant achievement during my leadership.”

He also expressed the need to prioritize his health and well-being. “I do not wish to bear the pressures of both being the president and fulfilling my chief role in Nadi. I have decided to concentrate on my responsibilities as Tui Nadi. It is the appropriate time to hand over the leadership to someone else to carry on.” Ratu Vuniyani addressed rumors of dissent within the party, clarifying that they were unfounded.

He expressed his gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, has taken on the role of acting president.
