Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance Party. He made the announcement yesterday, revealing that he handed in his resignation during a party executive council meeting held last week.
The 70-year-old leader cited two primary reasons for his decision. He expressed that he had accomplished his goal of helping to establish the party and successfully working to unseat the FijiFirst party, which he considers one of his significant achievements in leadership.
Ratu Vuniyani also emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health and well-being, stating that he did not want to bear the dual pressures of his roles as party president and chief of Nadi. He intends to focus solely on his responsibilities as the Tui Nadi. He mentioned that it is the appropriate time for him to pass the leadership to someone else for the continued progress of the party. Addressing rumors of disagreements within the party, he clarified that such claims were misinformed.
He expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters for their backing. The vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, has assumed the role of acting president following his resignation.
