Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week and confirmed this decision yesterday.
At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his departure. He expressed satisfaction in achieving his commitment to the party’s formation, which involved successfully opposing the FijiFirst party. He viewed this as a significant accomplishment during his leadership.
Additionally, Ratu Vuniyani emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health and well-being. He explained that managing the responsibilities of both the presidency and his chief role in Nadi was becoming overwhelming. He decided it was time to focus solely on his duties as Tui Nadi and to allow someone else to take over the presidency.
Addressing speculation about disputes over party procedures, he clarified that such rumors were unfounded misinformation. Ratu Vuniyani expressed gratitude towards the party, its members, and his supporters.
Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
