Tui Nadi Resigns: A Shift in Leadership for the People’s Alliance Party

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as president of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP). He announced his resignation during the PAP’s executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his decision. Firstly, he stated that he had fulfilled his commitment to the party, which was to defeat the FijiFirst party, a mission he described as a significant achievement in his leadership role. Secondly, he expressed the need to prioritize his health and personal life, stating that he did not want to bear the pressures of being both the party president and the chief of Nadi. He emphasized his choice to focus solely on his responsibilities as Tui Nadi and believed it was an appropriate time to pass the leadership to someone else. He dismissed rumors of any disputes regarding party procedures as misinformation.

He extended his gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, the vice president Ratu Josefa Dimuri is serving as the acting president.
