Tui Nadi Resigns: A New Chapter for the People’s Alliance Party

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, stating that he had submitted his decision during the party’s executive council meeting held last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his resignation. He expressed satisfaction with his contribution to the party’s establishment, particularly in successfully working to defeat the FijiFirst party, which he viewed as a significant accomplishment of his leadership.

Additionally, he mentioned the importance of prioritizing his health and personal life. He felt it was necessary to relinquish the dual pressures of his responsibilities as both president and the chief role of Nadi. Ratu Vuniyani indicated that it was an appropriate time to hand over leadership to someone else who could carry on the party’s work. He also addressed rumors suggesting disagreements over certain procedures, clarifying that they were based on misinformation.

He expressed gratitude towards the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, the vice-president, is serving as the acting president.
