Rusiate Tudravu has officially stepped down from his position as chairperson of the Tailevu Provincial Council in preparation for his upcoming role as the Commissioner of Police, set to begin on February 3, 2025. Tudravu expressed gratitude for his two-term service, which started in 2018, stating, “It has been an honour and a blessing to have served my province…I do hope that I have made impactful changes that many generations will benefit from.”
Having amassed over 30 years in policing, including serving as Deputy Commissioner in the Fiji Police Force, Tudravu noted that the leadership skills gained during his career were instrumental in his council role. He acknowledged the teamwork and knowledge shared among council members, emphasizing their collective commitment to serving the province.
This transition comes as the Prime Minister and the Constitutional Officers Commission unanimously nominated Tudravu for the police chief position. It reflects a strategic move toward responsible governance, as he relinquishes his council duties to focus solely on the significant responsibilities that come with leading the police force.
In his new role, Tudravu will be addressing critical issues, including public safety and community relations, drawing from his extensive experience to enhance the image and effectiveness of the Fiji Police Force. The community can remain hopeful that Tudravu’s leadership will foster a culture of professionalism and accountability within the force, paving the way for improved public trust and safety.
Overall, this appointment signifies a promising shift in leadership for the Fiji Police, with expectations that Tudravu will implement positive reforms and strengthen community engagement during his term.
