The National Disaster Risk Management Office is set to conduct live tsunami siren tests today at 11 AM along the Suva-Lami corridor. This drill will see all 13 sirens, installed from Lami Town to the Water Authority of Fiji–Kinoya Sewerage Plant, activated.

This exercise reflects Fiji’s ongoing commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness in the face of potential tsunami threats. The tests are designed to ensure that the community is informed and ready to respond effectively in case of an emergency. Previous initiatives have successfully increased public awareness and participation in such drills, contributing to a more resilient and prepared society.

Officials have assured residents that no evacuation will be necessary during this test, offering an opportunity for the local community to understand how the sirens function and what the alerts signify.

It’s encouraging to see proactive measures like this being implemented, as they play a crucial role in improving public safety and fostering a culture of preparedness in communities vulnerable to natural disasters. By engaging with the community, the authorities emphasize the importance of being informed and ready to react appropriately during emergencies.
