The JP Bayly Trust has contributed $20,000 to Habitat for Humanity Fiji to aid in housing and community development efforts. Trust chairman Digby Bossley emphasized the organization’s commitment to assisting disadvantaged Fijians in rebuilding their lives. He noted that many individuals in Fiji are still living in tents or have lost their homes due to natural disasters, while others lack the financial means to construct new homes. This instability can lead to various socioeconomic and health-related challenges.
When approached by Habitat Fiji for support in housing initiatives, Bossley stated they were eager to get involved, believing that these projects could help people gain a sense of security and enable them to work toward overcoming poverty.
Susan Naidu, the national director of Habitat for Humanity Fiji, mentioned that Daulomani Home in Lautoka, which was established during the COVID-19 pandemic, is currently providing temporary shelter for homeless individuals and families. The donation will help ensure access to essential services like electricity, as well as kitchen items such as refrigerators, freezers, and cooking stoves.
“This generous contribution from JP Bayly Trust motivates us to continue our mission of building homes, communities, and hope for Fiji’s most vulnerable populations,” Naidu stated. “With each home we build, we lay a foundation for families to lead healthier, happier, and more dignified lives.”
Earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity Fiji and JP Bayly Trust formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaborative efforts and offer comprehensive support to marginalized communities.
