Trough of Low Pressure Promises Stormy Weather Ahead in Fiji

A trough of low pressure is currently over the Fiji group, with another expected to arrive on Thursday. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi issued a bulletin this morning indicating that cloud cover associated with the trough is impacting the eastern regions of the country.

The weather forecast through midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group includes occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms in areas such as Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu North, Serua, Namosi, Naitasiri, Ra-Rakiraki, southern Bua, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, as well as nearby smaller islands, Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and adjacent smaller islands.

In other areas, cloudy periods are expected along with showers and thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon or evening, with the chance of isolated heavy rainfall. There is a risk of localized heavy downpours possibly resulting in flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone regions.

Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh from the east to southeast, and sea conditions may be moderate to rough.
