Trough of Low Pressure Brings Showers and Thunderstorms Across Fiji; Rotuma Under Heavy Rain Warning and Flash Flood Risk

Weather Update: Tide of Thunder and Showers Ahead!

Good morning, fellow weather-watchers! As we look at today’s forecast, it appears that Mother Nature is gearing up for a little shindig over Fiji, particularly in the northern and eastern regions. An active troublemaker, also known as a trough of low pressure, is hanging out to our east and, like all good party guests, is expected to wind down by tonight.

Here’s what you can expect until midnight tonight:

– In Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the little islands nearby—plus Lau and Lomaiviti—you may want to bring an umbrella or two! Occasional showers will be crashing the party, along with some isolated thunderstorms that are just too excited to miss out.
– Over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, and Kadavu, clouds will be forming their own little weather club, bringing in some showers. Watch out for localised heavy falls that might turn low-lying areas into mini-lakes—swimming lessons, anyone?
– Rest of Fiji? You lucked out, as it’s expected to be just fine, except for a cheeky afternoon or evening shower here and there and maybe a thunderstorm over Viti Levu, just to keep things interesting!

Winds will be coming in from the southeast to northwest at a moderate pace, while sea conditions are similarly moderate.

Looking ahead to Saturday:

– Expect more clouds and showers, with isolated thunderstorms still making their appearance across the Northern Division, Taveuni, and the usual suspects—Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, etc. The rest of you can breathe easy, as it will be fine apart from the usual afternoon or evening showers.
– But those on Viti Levu, don’t put away your umbrellas just yet—thunderstorms could make a guest appearance again in the afternoon!

Let’s break it down region by region for Saturday:

– Navua, Suva, and Nausori: A mix of clouds and showers. Temperature: 23-29.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Expect a fine day with just a chance of an afternoon shower. Temperature: 23-30.
– Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: They’ll keep it mostly fine, with just an afternoon splash of rain. Expect 24-32.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Similar fine vibes with an afternoon shower. Temperature: 23-31.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Cloudy spells with some showers – a classic private shower affair. Temperature: 23-29.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Mostly fine except for occasional brief showers in the afternoon or evening. Temperature: 24-31.

Warnings for our friends in Rotuma, it’s a different story: A heavy rain warning is in place! Expect a significant downpour and maybe a few thunderstorms to spice things up. Temperature: 24-28.

So pack your raincoat, grab your favorite umbrella, and keep the weather app handy. Let’s make the most of whatever Mother Nature throws our way!
