Trouble for Rugby Star: Allegations of Violence Cast Shadow on Career

Fijian winger Vinaya Habosi has not faced charges following his arrest over domestic violence allegations, but there are indications he may be suspended by his club, Racing 92, according to reports from France. Habosi was released after his partner chose not to file a complaint against him.

The situation arose from a dispute between Habosi and his wife, during which the 24-year-old reportedly pushed her while she was holding their baby. Witnesses told French media that after his wife fell to the ground, Habosi began to strike her on the back of the head. Fortunately, it was confirmed that their baby was unharmed, and his partner declined assistance from emergency services, showing no visible injuries.

It has also been reported that Habosi was intoxicated at the time of the incident, yet he claimed he did not push or strike his wife. In response to the events, Racing 92 released a statement saying, “Racing 92 has taken note of the facts alleged against its player Vinaya Habosi. Pending further information from the competent authorities, Racing 92 will refrain from any further comment.”

If found guilty, it is expected that Habosi’s contract with the team, coached by Stuart Lancaster, would be terminated. Habosi made his international debut for Fiji in 2022 and participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. He joined Racing 92 in the Top 14 league in 2023 after his previous contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated due to a ‘high-level breach’ of their code of conduct, reportedly involving another instance of domestic abuse.
