Belgium international Leandro Trossard is eager to transfer his impressive club performance with Arsenal to the national team as he rejoins the squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Italy and France.
Trossard is anticipated to step into the essential midfield position typically occupied by the injured Kevin De Bruyne during the Group A2 contests, beginning with a match in Rome against Italy on Thursday, followed by a home game against France on Monday.
He noted, “That hasn’t been discussed with the coach yet, but that will become clear today or tomorrow.” Trossard expressed uncertainty about his specific playing position but emphasized his preference for being utilized in his optimal role, recalling that during the European Championship he had to adapt to various positions.
While Trossard favors playing on the left wing of the attack, it is expected that Jeremy Doku will take that spot. In De Bruyne’s absence, Trossard is likely to be positioned centrally under coach Domenico Tedesco.
In recent Arsenal matches, particularly after captain Martin Odegaard’s injury, Trossard has successfully played as a second attacker alongside Kai Havertz. “I feel good, yes,” Trossard remarked. “Is this my best form ever? I dare not say but I think I’m performing quite consistently at Arsenal.”
The 29-year-old forward is returning to the squad after an unexpected absence from last month’s Nations League matches against Israel and France, during which Tedesco had asked him to rest to allow other players to gain experience. Trossard agreed, believing it was a wise decision to broaden the team’s depth.
