Rainy weather is set to persist across the nation into the next week as a trough of low pressure maintains its influence over the region. The Fiji Meteorological Services has reported that a low-pressure system located near the Solomon Islands has intensified into Tropical Disturbance TD03F.

As of this morning, TD03F is expected to move southeast, passing between Vanuatu and Fiji over the coming days. The system is currently in favorable conditions for further development, with a moderate to high likelihood of evolving into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. Forecasts indicate that the center of the disturbance may strengthen as it approaches Vanuatu.

In anticipation of the system’s impact, fresh to strong northerly winds are predicted to start affecting parts of the country from late Sunday or early Monday, with average wind speeds reaching up to 55 km/hr and gusts potentially hitting 80 km/hr. Depending on the further track and development of TD03F, these winds could escalate to near-gale or gale force.

The ongoing rainfall is likely to enhance the risk of flash flooding, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas. The Weather Office is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updated information as conditions progress.

In light of the potential severe weather, authorities are advising the public to stay informed, prepare adequately, and limit unnecessary travel during this period of adverse weather. This proactive approach will be key in ensuring safety as the country braces for the potential effects of Tropical Disturbance TD03F.
