A heavy rain alert has been issued for the entire Fiji group, reflecting a downgrading from a previous heavy rain warning. The current weather situation arises as Tropical Cyclone Seru has weakened into a low-pressure system located in the far southwest of Fiji. The Nadi weather office has reported that a trough of low pressure continues to influence weather patterns, bringing clouds and rain from the west.

The forecast predicts occasional showers, with some areas, particularly the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, experiencing isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms. In Viti Levu, particularly in the southern and interior regions from Momi to Suva and including Naitasiri and Serua/Namosi, afternoon and evening showers mixed with heavy rainfall are expected.

Given the persistent heavy rainfall, authorities are cautioning residents about the potential for flash flooding, particularly in lower-lying and flood-prone areas. Preparation and vigilance are crucial as localized floods can create hazardous situations.

This weather pattern, although challenging, underscores the importance of community resilience and preparation. Similar weather events in the past have demonstrated the need for residents to stay informed and to take necessary precautions against possible flooding, reminding us of the power of nature and the significance of staying united in times of adverse conditions. The potential for clearing skies later provides a hopeful outlook, suggesting that communities may soon have the opportunity to recover and regroup.
