Triumph Over Adversity: One Young Man’s Journey to Graduation

Inspired by a powerful Bible verse, Qenika Ravula has triumphed over his disability to achieve a significant milestone by graduating from Pacific Polytech. The graduation ceremony, held at the Kshatriya Hall in Labasa, celebrated around 51 graduates, among whom Mr. Ravula proudly received his National Certificate in Electrical Fitter Mechanic Level Three.

At just 20 years old, Mr. Ravula, the fourth of seven siblings from Vuinaqalutu Village in Dreketi, Macuata, showcased remarkable courage as he ascended the stage to accept his certificate from the Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga. Overcoming the challenges of kyphosis, a spinal disorder he has faced for more than ten years, Mr. Ravula expressed heartfelt emotions during this pivotal moment.

Despite his physical challenges, the verse from the Book of Philippians motivated him to persist and strive for greatness. His journey included attending the Naleba Youth Training Centre in Labasa after completing Year 12 at Ahmadiyya Muslim College, leading to his remarkable achievement as the first in his family to earn a trade certificate as an electrical fitter technician.

Mr. Ravula’s family, especially his mother, plays a pivotal role in his life, providing unwavering support while managing the household’s demands. They rely on root crops for sustenance, along with assistance from the Social Welfare Department. With two siblings in primary school and two in secondary, the family’s resilience shines through despite challenges.

Expressing gratitude towards his mother and faith in God, Mr. Ravula encourages young people to pursue positive paths, emphasizing the importance of hard work and trust in God over negative influences like drugs and crime. He firmly believes that with determination and faith, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.

Mr. Ravula’s story is not just about personal success; it is a rallying call for youth everywhere to embrace their potential and remain steadfast in their ambitions.
