Tributes Pour In for Fijian Netball Leader Kiti Bogidrau

The netball community is deeply mourning the loss of Wainikiti Bogidrau, a revered figure who passed away at the age of 56. With over 20 years of dedicated service in netball administration, Bogidrau played a pivotal role in shaping the sport, especially in Fiji and the Oceania region.

Her illustrious career included a tenure as President of Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020 and an appointment in 2019 to the World Netball Board as a Director representing the Oceania region. World Netball acknowledged her incredible contributions, emphasizing that she was not only a beloved member of the netball family but also a driving force behind significant advancements in the sport locally and globally.

Bogidrau’s passion for netball was evident in her relentless pursuit of excellence for Fiji’s national team. She advocated for more challenging competitions, believing that stronger matches were essential for the development of the players. Her initiative in founding the “Friends of Netball” group in 2010 showcased her commitment to providing financial support for the national team’s journey to World Cup qualifiers.

Numerous tributes have emerged from netball unions across the globe, including heartfelt messages from organizations in New Zealand, South Africa, Wales, and Namibia—reflecting her far-reaching influence in the sport. RubyAnn Sorovaki, the President of Netball Fiji, expressed profound gratitude for Bogidrau’s energetic leadership and contributions, noting that she would be deeply missed by all.

In addition to her contributions to netball, Bogidrau also contributed significantly to the Fiji National Provident Fund, where she was recognized for her vibrant and passionate personality. Her commitment extended beyond sports, as she cherished her family and spiritual life.
