Tree Trouble: Major Power Outage Hits Central Division

A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line between the Wailoa Power Station and Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva caused a significant power supply disruption across the Central Division this afternoon.

Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that a tree being cut in Waibau accidentally fell onto the 132,000-volt transmission line, interrupting the power transfer from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the substation in Suva.

“Our teams are en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line so that we can re-energize it,” Patel stated.

“While efforts are underway to restore power to affected areas via the Kinoya Power Station, it will take some time to fully restore the power supply to the Central Division.”

He urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance, as any line could be electrified unexpectedly.

Energy Fiji Limited extended its apologies for this unexpected power disruption and the inconvenience it has caused, emphasizing that the situation is beyond their control and asking for the cooperation and understanding of their valued customers.
