Tree Trouble: Central Division Faces Power Outage

A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line connecting the Wailoa Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva led to a significant power supply disruption in the Central Division this afternoon.

Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that a tree being cut in Waibau accidentally fell onto the 132,000 volts transmission line. This incident interrupted the power evacuation from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the substation in Suva.

Patel stated, “Our teams are currently en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line before we can re-energize it.” He added that while efforts are underway to restore power to the affected areas through the Kinoya Power Station, full restoration across the Central Division will take some time.

Patel urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance, as power lines can become electrified at any moment. He also expressed apologies for the unexpected power disruption and the inconvenience it has caused, emphasizing that it was beyond their control and requesting the understanding of all their valued customers.
