Several rural roads across Fiji’s Central and Northern Divisions are closed due to extensive flooding, and local authorities are urging travelers to exercise extreme caution while adhering to all road closure advisories.
In the Central Division, significant flooding has affected Savu Road in Naitasiri, along with the roads leading to Viria Village, Vatulili, and Navulokani, all of which are currently experiencing flooded crossings. Additionally, Nabukaluka Delailasakau Road is facing severe disruptions due to a landslide, washout, and flooding.
The situation is similarly troubling in the Northern Division, where Coqeloa Road has a flooded crossing at Qelemumu, and Vunivutu Road is also submerged. Other impacted routes in this division include Boubale Road at Qawa Crossing, Sevaci Korotasere Road at Nayagalevu Crossing, Dreketilailai Road at Konasami Crossing, and Vuniyalayala Road at Vuniyalayala Crossing.
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is actively monitoring these conditions and committed to providing timely updates as the situation evolves. The proactive approach taken by the FRA reflects a dedication to public safety and the need to maintain essential infrastructure despite the challenges posed by adverse weather.
Amidst these difficulties, it is important for communities to remain vigilant and mindful of safety measures during these challenging times. With the ongoing efforts of the FRA, there is hope that conditions will improve, allowing for the eventual reopening of the critical routes. This situation serves as a reminder of the resilience and solidarity of the community as they navigate these temporary obstacles together.
