Residents of Omkar Road in Narere are reaching out to local authorities for assistance in tackling a growing rubbish problem that has persisted for months. Sakiusa Waqa, a local resident, expressed his concerns about the accumulation of garbage, pointing out that while some waste can be attributed to residents improperly discarding their household items, the town council is equally accountable for the delays in waste collection.

Waqa stated, “The garbage collectors need to arrive on schedule to remove rubbish. When they skip their visits, it piles up, and animals like dogs scatter it across the street.” He noted that various types of waste, including old vehicles, furniture, and appliances, have been left unattended, causing a negative impact on the community’s appearance and hygiene.

This issue mirrors concerns raised recently by residents of other neighborhoods, such as those on Yalu Street, who reported similar frustrations with rubbish collection delays, especially significant around the Diwali festival. Many locals have raised health and safety alarms due to piles of waste becoming breeding grounds for pests and emitting foul odors.

Waqa also highlighted a previous attempt by the community to clear roadside rubbish after instructions from the council, but their efforts have not resulted in consistent collection. He plans to share these ongoing concerns at an upcoming meeting this Friday, advocating for more effective waste management from the council.

The challenges faced by residents of Narere and other areas stress the importance of timely waste collection and community engagement in maintaining cleanliness. As Waqa and his neighbors continue to voice their frustrations, there lies a hopeful opportunity for local authorities to address these issues proactively, demonstrating their commitment to public health and environmental sustainability. Engaging in dialogue can lead to solutions that not only resolve current issues but also promote community responsibility for waste management in the future.
