Minister for Transport Filipe Tuisawau has urged Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) to refrain from making public comments regarding an ongoing court case, emphasizing that the legal matter is now under judicial review and any statements could potentially prejudice the court’s decision.

In a recent online statement, Tuisawau highlighted that GSL seems unaware of fundamental legal principles, indicating that the case is currently sub judice. He warned that any subjective commentary could be interpreted as contempt of court. “Engaging in infantile subjective posts will not solve or progress anything,” he stated, urging caution in how the company communicates about the situation.

The Minister pointed out that certain public statements made by GSL are misleading and could contribute to the spread of misinformation. He called for the company to cease any unfounded claims and to allow the legal process to run its course, stressing the importance of adhering to lawful procedures.

Tuisawau also acknowledged public concerns regarding the condition of GSL’s vessels, stating, “People are fed up with derelict vessels — get rid of them now and leave the other matter to the court.” He asserted that no further comments will be made while the judicial proceedings are ongoing and the ministry will await the court’s decision with patience.

This statement highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding maritime operations and the need for adherence to legal frameworks while addressing public and operational concerns within the industry.
